Mr Toefy passed away at house in Schaapkraal after a long illness and, according to Muslim tradition, he was buried on the same day with hundreds of mourners paying their last respects to the former SARU and Western Province prop.

In 1987, Mr Toefy was a member of the great SARU team, playing alongside players such as Allister Coetzee, Irven October, Makhaya Jack, Fagmie Solomons, Cassiem Noordien and Gary Boshoff.

“Nazeem was often called a ‘gentle giant’ and he was someone who cared deeply for others and was always available to assist and help where he could,” said Mr Alexander.

“He was nicknamed ‘Tarzan’ and formed a formidable pair with his brother Aslam, with whom he played for WP at the famous Green Point Track. Nazeem had a deep love for rugby, but he also provided inspiration as a wonderful entrepreneur.

“Nazeem was very well respected in his community, and we would like to pay our respects to a former great of South African rugby. Our condolences also go out to his wife Fatiema, their children and other family members, friends and former team-mates. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus, Insha Allah, Ameen.”
